  • Conduct an assessment of current state waste collection and develop a plan for improvement in waste segregation

  • Work with the TWM and Plant Environmental Compliance Engineer (PECE) to determine which waste items are recyclable

  • Work with the TWM and the PECE to develop a food waste collection process for the plant cafeteria

  • Coordinate a Waste Minimization team

  • Work with the Waste Minimization team to develop a standardized process for the waste collection process for both Production waste and Non-production waste

  • Review cycle line layouts to determine all waste components generated from the production process

  • Develop cycle line layouts and Plant Layouts for updated waste segregation process for both production waste and non- production waste

  • Work with Salary and Hourly employees implementing the recycling process and drive contamination reduction in the recyclable collection process

  • Work with the Cleaning contractor to develop an effective collection process to ensure optimum waste segregation ensuring waste to landfill reduction

  • Develop training materials and conduct training sessions for plant employees on the new waste collection processes

  • Conduct value stream mapping and process audits to track progress of waste collection improvement and evaluate quantitatively whether the new processes are improving the waste segregation process and decreasing the waste sent to landfill.

  • Prepare or direct the preparation of cost estimates of new or revised processes for improving waste segregation

  • Work with the TWM to track and report waste metrics to the Plant Environmental Compliance Engineer

  • Review proposed changes in plant layout, processes, material handling, routing, etc.

  • Develop cost saving project proposals and write projects as required

  • Interface with Production Supervision and the UAW to settle job disputes

  • Assist production in planning labor allocations for waste collection processes


  • Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills

  • Must possess the ability to analyze and resolve issues quickly through route cause analysis and drive change back to the production departments.

  • Must have the necessary skill set to have job placement flexibility and the expectation to rotate to various positions within the plant such as Production or Quality

  • Must display strong customer orientation with a commitment to upholding plant processes through strict adherence to the Quality Operating System.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to execute to achieve results, while organizing and managing multiple priorities

  • Must have a proven willingness to take a participatory approach to union relations and be a team player

  • Must have the ability to serve as a strong and confident technical mentor to the production organization (both hourly and salary)

  • Must have strong written and verbal communications skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ experience

  • MODAPTS Certification

  • GSPAS knowledge

  • Microsoft Office


  • High School Diploma

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering
