Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) Engineering position is located in Chicago. For this position you will have primary responsibility for delivering Powertrain NVH (Noise/Vibration/Harshness) and Vehicle Dynamics function (alignment, tire balance, vehicle vibrates, ride, handling). Ideal candidate is very hands-on with a strong mechanical aptitude and desire to solve complicated issues. Candidate should have a passion for automobiles and desire to work in the automotive field, specifically at an assembly plant. Position is a mix between plant/manufacturing and desk computer work. Candidate must be a problem solver and be able to work with minimal direction and will have daily opportunities to drive freshly built vehicles and solve quality issues. Responsibilities: • Position is in-person, onsite at the assembly plant. Remote/work from home is not an option for this position. • Root cause disposition of any vehicle level issues to respective functional engineering activities • Lead local powertrain noise and vehicle dynamics/chassis to meet stringent quality target (customer surveys and warranty) • Lead on any related product holds (Stop ships, campaigns, quality issues, etc.) • Work directly with hourly personnel, engineers, suppliers and all levels of company management • Lead alignment data analysis and alignment setting • Lead tire room quality and process improvements • Champion quality status by monitoring early warranty claims, binning claims, contact dealerships on parts, make HOT requests to ship parts to suppliers for root cause evaluation • Support engineering change trials • Identify emerging issues and react quickly to scope issue • Lead/Support vehicle evaluation drives • Manage online quality systems with project inputs, project health, and glidepaths • Lead onsite quality management reviews
Skilled at trouble shooting and methodical data analysis, analytical skills are a must. Statistical knowledge is a must. • Must have strong vehicle evaluation, driving, and assessment skills • Ability to work with and lead assembly plant / supplier team to implement changes required for vehicle improvement • Highly motivated self-starter who can work autonomously as well as lead team toward common goal • Communication skills are key, must give clear and accurate direction to all team members and management, speak confidently • Must be able to multi-task and adapt quickly to changing needs and direction • Thrives and enjoys working in a plant environment * Fluent in English and able to clearly communicate to all management levels.
Ability to learn new software/data analytic tools, programming.
Passion for automobiles. Past experiences with auto repair, tuning, modifications, tinkering. Mechanically inclined and able to do own mechanical/electrical repairs. Understanding of mechanical systems. Racing/Mini Baja/Formula1 clubs in school/hobby.
NVH background, sound acoustics.
