Job Description

  • AVS-IPI Tech Lead/Controls Engineer

  • The successful candidate for this position will play a critical role in the implementation of the Next Generation Automated Vehicle Scheduling (NGAVS) system in our client vehicle assembly plants in North and South America

  • As an In-Plant Implementation (IPI) technical lead, he/she will be responsible for the integration of NGAVS with our client Vehicle Operations tooling and process control systems

  • The candidate will work with vendor controls engineers to install, test, and debug standard NGAVS logic and drivers

  • He/she may also direct the efforts of others; including agency personnel or a third-party controls integration team, depending on the project assigned

  • Although most NGAVS PLC code modules are complete and standardized, the candidate may need to create custom code for plant unique situations or modify standard templates and AOL.s to address issues identified by others

  • Duties include maintenance of PLC code for Allen-Bradly ControlLogix using Rockwell RS5000 software and creation and modification of HMI code for Allen-Bradley PanelViews

  • Assignments may be in support of programs at any of our client vehicle assembly plants in North and South America

Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industrial controls in an automotive environment, preferably with the Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLC family

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all levels of operating management

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build a close working relationship with customers

Experience Preferred

  • Effective team player

  • Knowledge of Rockwell Factory Talk Production Center a plus

  • Although this position is based in iTek in Dearborn, the job requires extensive travel to plant launch sites during critical phases of each new model program

  • Candidate must be legally able to travel to and work in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Brazil

  • Must be physically able to work for long hours on the assembly plant floor (body, paint, and final); including walking extended distances and climbing stairs/ladders to overhead mezzanines where equipment may be located No

Education Required

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Computer Systems or Manufacturing or B.S. in Computer Science with emphasis on Manufacturing/Industrial Controls or equivalent experience
