Position Description:

Transportation Modelling Research Specialist

  • The candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and expanding cutting-edge mobility research, including the transportation operating system (tOS) and its constituent data sets, visualizations, and transportation models/simulations.

  • The candidate will help our client to develop and simulate new and innovative mobility solutions, including by not limited to microtransit, dynamic shuttles, smart cities, and connected and automated vehicles.

Major responsibilities of this position include:

  • Work with a wide variety of different transportation and mobility models and simulations. Examples of relevant software include: PTV Vissim/Visum, Aimsun, TransModeler, CUBE, TransCAD, MATSIM, SUMO, and Company developed simulations, optimization models, and data architectures.

  • Assist in visualizing transportation modelling results, including integration with land-use and other urban data (e.g. census data).

  • Work with various groups, including GDIA and FSM, as well as relevant partners and suppliers, to help develop, design, and implement various modelling and visualization software.

Develop innovative approaches to model “new mobility” concepts and solutions, including but not limited to:

  • Shared Mobility Services

  • Multimodality and Mode Choice

  • Transportation Network Resilience

  • Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs)

  • Transportation Planning for Rapid Urbanization


Skills Required:

Proven and demonstrable experience in one or more of the following:

  • City and Transportation Planning

  • Microscopic Traffic Modelling

  • Macroscopic Transportation Model (e.g. Travel Demand Modeling)

  • Activity-Based Modelling

  • Shared Mobility Modeling (e.g. via agent-based modelling)

  • GIS

Skills Preferred:

  • Expertise in "new mobility" research

  • Expertise in one or more coding languages, such as Python or C++ Experience working with large and heterogeneous data sets

  • Experience working with APIs and/or with open-source software and models

  • Experience working on large-scale, complex, interdisciplinary projects

Experience Required:

2+ years experience with transportation modelling (graduate level course work sufficient)

Education Required:

B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, Industrial & Operations Engineering, Complex Systems, Data Science, or equivalent fields with a strong focus on transportation.

Education Preferred:

PhD. in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, Industrial & Operations Engineering, Complex Systems, Data Science, or equivalent fields with a strong focus on transportation.
