Responsibilities

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in establishing operational methods and work standards using various measurement techniques

  • Provides information for various management systems

  • Record and analyze information on specific problems assigned in the utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities

  • Work well with various engineering disciplines, floor and shop personnel and outside suppliers

  • Confirms or recommends changes to layouts, labor control and/or material control

  • Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material and equipment in supporting SPQRC initiatives

  • Must support plant in achieving Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness and Cost goals

  • Must be willing to work any assigned shift, work daily, weekend, and holiday overtime as required

  • Supports/implements the QS9000/ISO14001/(GMS) Global Manufacturing System compliance processes

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Good interpersonal skills involving ability to work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturally - Good written and oral communication skills necessary for meetings and presentations

  • Ability to work well with others, exhibiting teamwork skills

  • Partners with senior management to analyze and solve issues

  • Ability to multitask by handling diverse assignments concurrently

  • Strong knowledge of work measurement and work standards

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes

  • Demonstrated strong ability with ergonomic requirements of work station design

  • Ability to conduct line balancing activities

  • Ability to coordinate system simulations and design process buff

  • Position related experience

  • Relevant auto industry experience required

  • Areas of expertise include: Manufacturing, Assembly Process, Ergonomics

  • This position will perform typical IE duties for our Stamping department.

  • This position will perform plant IE work for many different departments.

  • This position will perform IE work for the plant

DESCRIPTION

  • Responsible for studying and planning operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities of assigned area.

  • Use independent judgment, but can receive some direct guidance from supervisor.

  • Occasional training and assigning of work to a small group of employees.

  • Assists in establishing operational methods and work standards using various measurement techniques

  • Analyzes existing operations and proposes cost justified improvements

  • Optimizes use of floor space, materials, personnel and equipment for current and future model

  • Assists in planning new facilities, operations and/or relocation of same

  • Provides information and data for various management systems

  • Provide technical ergonomics resource support for current and future model

  • Regular contact with others outside the work group

  • Monitors adherence to recommended safety procedures and standardized work documentation

  • Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project

  • Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions

  • Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise

  • Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are complex

  • Oral and written communication skills

  • Work flexibility (working all 3 shifts)

  • Knowledge of work measurement, standard data and time study

  • Knowledge of Global Manufacturing System and assembly processes

  • Demonstrated creativity, personal initiative and decision making capability

  • Demonstrated, technical and professional skills in job-related area required

  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required

  • Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering preferred (MS Office, Assembly Process System APS, AutoCAD)

TYPICAL DAY:

  • 50% of the typical day is spent on the floor making observations. This includes taking data, validating operations on the floor, documentation, and conducting standardized work

  • The other 50% of the day is spent working in the office making updates to the documentation and working on plans to improve processes

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Field checking

  • Time study on the floor

  • Layout of date and line balance

  • Validate time studies (breaking down small aliments of work on the right job, ensuring that each amount of time is appropriate so the jobs are feasible)

  • Working on floor layouts with AutoCAD tools

  • Updating layouts

  • Creating proposals for rearrangements at the operations level

  • Creating innovative solutions to maximize the efficiency of the operators

  • The ability to troubleshoot very quickly so the line can get up and running.

  • The ability to perceive future possible obstacles that would cause the line to shut down and prevent production from running

MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a Major in Industrial Engineering; Masters preferred

  • 0-5 years of experience (manufacturing, production)

  • Good communication skills, people skills

  • Comfortable working in a union environment

  • The ability to sell ideas and lead/conduct meetings

  • Good people skills

Preferred Work Schedule:

1st shift, occasional off-shift might be required.
